Have you heard about Pedro and Inês love story? Well, even though it's quite tragic and somewhat morbid, this is the most famous and romantic Portuguese tale. The married successor to the throne Pedro fell for his wife's maid, Inês de Castro. The romance lasted for several years in secret. When the King found out about it, he ordered the murder of the girl, taking advantage of Pedro's absence. In despair and profound agony, after his father's death, the then King D. Pedro I, ordered the coronation of Inês, requesting all the court members to kiss her hand as a sign of respect for their new and dead queen. What a story!
