Whoever arrives in Toledo to witness the Corpus Christi procession finds a city adorned days before, when preparations begin both in the streets of the route and in the Cathedral itself. The streets are covered with the old awnings that come from the weavers' and silk guilds. The owners of the houses adorn their balconies with confectioners, flags and other appropriate ornaments. Some streets adjoining those of the passage of the procession are even adorned, as well as the patios of private houses, which open their doors to visitors, in many cases, only for these dates.
The citizens of Toledo are justifiably proud of their Corpus Christi celebrations – seeing them as a time when religion, culture and tradition all come together in a very special way. Visitors will also have the opportunity of participating in an extensive schedule of other events, such as concerts and shows and sporting events.
